William McKinley also known as “Idol of Ohio” was the 25th
President 1897 through 1901. During his time of President he makes the decision
to help out Cuba when Spain was ruling Cuba. When United States helped Cuba win their
independents, they wanted to enter the 20th century with a strong and new
“empire”. When McKinley was young and the Civil war started, he was a valiant
soldier. He was one of the best; he was a private then got ranked Brevet Major
on the staff of Colonel Rutherford Hayes. On September 14, 1901 he got killed
by an assassin while he gave the first lady his full attention.
